Korean (KOR) wrestler Ryu Han-su celebrated his gold medal win with dozens of
his supporters after beating Kazakhstan’s Kebispayev Almat in the final round
in the men's Greco-Roman 67 kilogram category.
Ryu
presented South Korea’s first gold medal in wrestling after the country
collected six bronzes from the men’s and women's freestyle categories.
Ryu
was ahead 5-4 in technical points and 3-1 in the classification points in the
six-minute final match at the Assembly Hall, Jakarta Convention Center, on
Tuesday evening.
At
the beginning of the match, the two wrestlers attempted to slam each other. The
first three-minute period ended with a draw of 4-4 for technical points. Ryu
ensured his victory in the second period with 1-0 in technical points.
Dozens
of South Korean supporters in the gallery celebrated the victory and cheered
Ryu’s name.
As
the match ended, Ryu could not contain his excitement. He immediately gave a
salute in front of the supporters and joined the celebration in the gallery
with the crowd.
The
two bronze medals in the men's Greco-Roman 67 kg category were each won by
Ismailov Amantur from Kyrgyzstan and the Geraei Mohammadreza from IR Iran.
