United Arab Emirates (UAE) ju-jitsu athlete Alketbi Faisal won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games men’s 94 kilogram category after stopping the counteraction of Jordan’s Sami Zaid in a win by referee decision.

In a match taking place at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday, the heavyweight ju-jitsu fighters fought intensely.

Both Sami and Alketbi were seeking every chance to ensure a submission position by grabbing each other’s attire, arms and legs. But the two gained no points until the match ended in five minutes.
Based on the judges’ and referee’s decision, Sami and Alketbi each secured an advantage and got two penalties.
The referee decided a victory for Alketbi because he was evaluated as having more actively initiating attacks to tighten submission stances.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea’s Hwang Myengse grabbed a bronze medal through his submission move over Kussainov Ramazan from Kazakhstan.
The other bronze was seized by Kazakstan’s Makhashev Rizat after ending the resistance of his opponent from Uzbekistan, Juraev Ilkhom, with a 3-0 advantage.
The ju-jitsu competition in the 2018 Asian Games was held in the Assembly Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center on Aug. 24-26.
