Japanese
rider Yoshiaki Oiwa was awarded the gold medal in equestrian eventing at the
2018 Asian Games at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park (JIEP) in
Pulomas, Jakarta, on Sunday.
Oiwa,
riding Bart L JRA, booked the least penalties in the jumping final to record a
time of 22.70. The equestrian eventing competition consists of three events:
dressage, cross country and jumping.
Yoshiaki
expressed his joy after winning the gold medal and also thanked his his team,
which ensured Bart L JRA was in the best condition for competition.
"The
temperature here is different from where the horse has come from. I appreciate
the hard work of the team that took care of the horse so it could adapt,"
he said at a press conference.
Yoshiaki
outperformed Indian rider Fouaad Mirza and his horse Siegneur Medicott (26.40)
and China’s Alex Hua Tian and his horse PSH Convivial (27.10), who won the
silver and bronze respectively.
Alex
said he hoped the experience gained at the 2018 Asian Games would help him at
the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"The
Asian Games are the first step to the Olympics. The Tokyo Olympics will be my
main target," he said.
Meanwhile,
Indonesian rider Jendry Palandeng and his horse Donitri finished 13th in a
field of 20 riders. The 36-year-old rider recorded a time of 44.20 in the
jumping final.
