Cikarang (ANTARA News) – Syria
scored an emphatic 5-2 win over Timor Leste in a Group C qualifying soccer
match at Wibawa Mukti Cikarang Stadium, Bekasi, on Sunday night.
Shalha scored a hattrick, while
Zakria Hannan and Muhammad Kamel Koaeh netted a goal apiece.
Timor Leste’s two goals were scored
by Walter Gama in the 14th minute and substitute Silva Garcia in the 84th.
Syria strikers Shalha, Koaeh and
Kurdaghli infiltrated Timor Leste’s defense effortlessly but their shots at
goal were all stopped by goalkeeper Fernandes.
Syria’s forays deep into the
opposition’s half opened the door for Timor Leste’s Gama to launch a
counterattack. He easily breached Syria’s defense but his attacks were blunted
by goalkeeper Ibrahim.
However, the 20-year-old finally
managed to outwit the goalkeeper when he scored the opener for Timor Leste in
the 14th minute.
In the 32nd minute, Syria equalized
through Hannan after a delightful pass from Shalha.
Shalha put Syria, which is coached
by Muhannad Al Fakeer, 2-1 up with a headed goal in the 42 nd minute.
A header from Syria midfielder Koaeh
widened the gap to 3-1 within four minutes of the restart and Shalha scored his
side’s fourth goal in the 53rd minute.
Substitute Garcia, 24, gave Timor
Leste a glimmer of hope when he netted in the 84th minute.
In the final minutes of the match,
Shalha scored his third goal to put the game beyond doubt.
Syria dominated the game by creating
15 attempts on goal, compared to Timor Leste’s seven.
