The Myanmar U-23 national team
defeated IR Iran 2-0 in the last match of the first round of Group F men's
soccer at the 2018 Asian Games (Asiad) on Monday.
Myanmar scored an emphatic 2-0 win
over Iran in a Group F qualifying soccer match at Patriot Chandrabaga Stadium,
Bekasi, West Java, on Monday. Myanmar’s two goals were scored by midfielders
Lwin Moe Aw in the 56th minute and Htet Phyo Wai in the 68th.
Despite winning, Myanmar failed to
advance to the last 16 of the Asiad because it only ranked fourth in Group F.
Meanwhile, Iran won the group and was entitled to qualify for the eighth final
with DPR Korea in second place.
In the match, Iran U-23 national
team coach Zlatko Kranjcar did not play five players competing in two Group F
matches, namely Mahdi Amini, Mohammadreza Azadi Andizeh, Amir Roustaei,
Mohammad Aganjanpoor and Mohammadmehdi Mehdikhani.
Instead, he played Adeli Shahab,
Mehdi Rehimi, Reza Zabireh, Shahin Abbasian and Mohammad Khodabandehlo.
Meanwhile, on Myanmar’s side, coach
Antoine Hey dropped nine of his main players who always competed in the
previous two games.
In the "starting 11" list,
only Soe Moe Kyaw and Si Thu Aung did not play in two consecutive games before
facing IR Iran.
Both teams took turns launching
attacks from the first minute. Two opportunities in one minute, exactly at the
18th minute, which were obtained by Myanmar players Hlaing Bo Bo and Si Thu
Aung, were well thwarted by Iran goalkeeper Shahab Adeli.
IR Iran players who tried hard to
create goals had the opportunity in the 25th minute. But the ball produced by
midfielder Mehdi Ghayaedi did not meet the target.
The 0-0 score lasted until Malaysian
referee Suhaizi bin Sukri blew the whistle as the match entered the interval.
Myanmar immediately took the
initiative to attack since the first minute of the second half. The result was
they could score a goal through Lwin Moe Aung's shot at the 56th minute.
After that, the Myanmar U-23
national team continued to give pressure and finally returned to scoring after
Htet Phyoe Wai released the ball into Shahab Adeli's goal at the 68th minute.
The 2-0 score for the superiority of
Myanmar made the game even tenser. However, there were no more goals until the
end of the match.
