Bhubaneswar, India: After facing defeats in their respective Pool C openers, Canada and South Africa played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive at Hockey World Cup 2018.
World number 11 Canada and world number 15 South Africa fought hard to attain dominance as there was very little to separate the two teams in the first two quarters.
After going into the break at 0-0, South Africa who took the lead in the 43rd minute through a fine reverse stick field goal by Nqobile Ntuli.
But South Africa's joy was short-lived as Canada equalized two minutes later when they were awarded a penalty stroke and skipper Scott Tupper took the onus on himself to level the match.
Thereafter, both Canada and South Africa pressed hard in search of the winner but they failed to breach the rival defense to eventually share the spoils.
While Canada will play hosts India in their last pool match on December 8, South Africa will face Belgium on the same day.

South Africa are under a lot of pressure as they were blanked by hosts India 5-0 on the opening day of the tournament. Canada came up with a spirited effort against world number three, Belgium in their 2-1 defeat but a 1-1 draw wasn’t the ideal result for them on Sunday.
