CHINESE TAIPEI WINS FIRST
GOLD IN SHOOTING

Yingshin Lin
and Shaochuan Lu from Chinese Taipei have won the first gold medal in the 2018
Asian Games air rifle shooting competition with a total of 494.1 points.
The mixed duo
beat their counterparts from China with a narrow margin in a fierce competition
at Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday.
China took
silver after Ruozhu Zhao and Haoran Yang gained a total of 492.5 points.
The Final
result was determined after Chinese Taipei and China athletes had made 24 shots
The bronze
medal went to India after Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar gained a total of
429.9 points.
Korea ranked
fourth with a total of 389.4 points, while Mongolia had to settle for fifth
place with 346.6 points.
The final
result was quite surprising, because in the qualifying round, Chinese Taipei
had only ranked fifth. Korea’s shooters, on the other hand, were the top
scorers in the qualifying round but were unable to maintain that performance.
Korean shooters Jung Eunhea and Kim Hyeon-jun booked a total of 836.7 points in
the qualifying round.
Similarly,
the Indian shooters did well in the qualifying round, ranking second with a
tally of 835.3 points.
Sunday
afternoon will also see the final shooting competition in the 10-meter pistol
category.
