Yingshin Lin and Shaochuan Lu from Chinese Taipei have won the first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games air rifle shooting competition with a total of 494.1 points.
The mixed duo beat their counterparts from China with a narrow margin in a fierce competition at Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday.
China took silver after Ruozhu Zhao and Haoran Yang gained a total of 492.5 points.
The Final result was determined after Chinese Taipei and China athletes had made 24 shots
The bronze medal went to India after Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar gained a total of 429.9 points.
Korea ranked fourth with a total of 389.4 points, while Mongolia had to settle for fifth place with 346.6 points.
The final result was quite surprising, because in the qualifying round, Chinese Taipei had only ranked fifth. Korea’s shooters, on the other hand, were the top scorers in the qualifying round but were unable to maintain that performance. Korean shooters Jung Eunhea and Kim Hyeon-jun booked a total of 836.7 points in the qualifying round.
Similarly, the Indian shooters did well in the qualifying round, ranking second with a tally of 835.3 points.
Sunday afternoon will also see the final shooting competition in the 10-meter pistol category.
