Uzbekistan’s
Vadim Menkov Awang won the gold medal in the canoe men's singles (C1) 1,000
meter sprint at the 2018 Asian Games.
In
the final stretch of the canoe sprint final at the Jakabaring Rowing and
Canoeing Regatta Course, Palembang, South Sumatra, on Thursday, the gold
medalist defeated athletes from seven other countries.
The
silver medal went to Tajikistan’s Daminov Shahriyor, while the bronze medal was
won by IR Iran’s Rezaei Mohammad Nabi.
Meanwhile,
the competition in the men’s kayak four (K4) 500m was won by the Kazakhstan
team of Golendov Ilya, Dergunov Alexey, Tolarnytskyi Sergii and Alexeyev
Yevgeniy. Nine countries, including Indonesia, competed in the final.
Indonesia’s
Gandie, Harjito Mugi, Buwono Tri Wahyu and Ryondra Mazir failed to make the
podium, finishing far behind the competition in sixth place.
Silver
went to the Republic of Korea’s (KOR) Cho Gwanghee, Cho Jeonghyun, Choi Minkyu
and Kim Jiwon. The bronze medal was won by the IR Iran team of Talebian
Ahmadreza, Ghavidel Siah Sofiani Peyman, Aghamirzaeigenaghard Ali and Boudaghi
Amin
Of
the six canoe sprint golds at stake on the day, four were won by China, while
the other two golds were won by the aforementioned Kazakhstan team and
Uzbekistan in the men’s singles (C1) 1000m.
China
has dominated in canoe and kayak events, the last of which will take place on
Saturday.
China's
first gold was won by M.A. Yanan and Sun Mengya in the women's doubles (C2)
500m.
The
second gold was won by Li Yue in the kayak women's singles (K1) 500m.
The
third gold was won in the kayak men's doubles (K2) 1,000m by Zhang Dong and Bu
Tingkal and the fourth was obtained by Liuh H. and Wang H. in the canoe men's
doubles (C2) 1,000m.
Indonesia,
which has athletes competing in the finals of five classes, was only able to
get one bronze medal in the canoe women's doubles (C2) 500m thanks to Andriyani
Riska and Meni Nur.
Its
other four teams – in the kayak men's four (K4) 500m, kayak women's singles
(K1) 500m, kayak men's doubles (K2) 1,000m and canoe men's doubles (C2) 1,000m
– did not get any medals.
