Japanese
karatekas emerged victorious in both the men’s and the women’s kata categories
at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Central Jakarta
on Saturday.
Ryo
Kiyuna bagged the gold medal in the men’s event after crushing Yita Wang of
Chinese Taipei with a score of 5-0.
Ryo
had reached the final round after defeating Qatar’s Adham Hashem in the
quarterfinals and Indonesia’s Ahmad Zigi Zaresta Yuda in the semifinals,
winning both rounds with the same clean-slate score of 5-0.
Ryo’s
compatriot and fellow karateka Kiyou Shimizu pocketed the gold medal in the
female competition for her 5-0 victory over Soi Lam Sou from Macau, China.
Displaying
similar dominance to Ryo, Kiyou Shimizu had achieved the same 5-0 victory in
the quarterfinals, against Ada Wong from the Republic of Korea, after defeating
Mo Sheung Lau of Hong Kong, China, 3-2 in the semifinals.
