The
Republic of Korea men’s handball team became runners-up in Group 2 after
defeating IR Iran 34-28 at GOR POPKI, Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Friday night.
Iran
player Shahoo Nosrati was the match’s top scorer with 10 goals out of 12 shots
on target, while South Korea’s Kyeong Jeong tallied nine goals out of 15 on
target.
RO
Korea coach Shin Young Cho said he would make lots of preparations to take down
Qatar in the semifinal match slated for Aug. 27.
RO
Korea has bad memories of meeting Qatar. The team was defeated by Qatar in the
handball final at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
"At
that time, our team made many mistakes. Now we make sure that we will win
the full points and qualify for the final, “Shin said.
Iran
coach Zoran Kastratovikj said he was proud of his team’s performance.
"I
am proud of our team. Although they are defeated, they played very well and
were only six points behind in the match,” Zoran said.
The
two teams played aggressively right from the beginning of the match. RO Korea
led the first half, which ended 17-12, and sealed their victory in the second
half by scoring 17 to Iran’s 16. The final result was 28-34 in favor of RO
Korea.
Japanese
umpires Kiyoshi Hizi and Tomokazu Ikebuchi issued five yellow cards in the
match, with three for Iran and two for South Korea.
