Wrestler Cho Hyo Chul was brought to tears after contributing a gold medal to South Korea in the men’s greco-roman 97-kg category on Wednesday night. a
In the final held at the Jakarta Convention Center Assembly Hall, Jakarta, he defeated Chinese wrestler Xiao Di with 5-4 in technical points and 3-1 in classification points.
He is now the second wrestler from Korea to earn a gold medal in the Games’ wrestling competition after Ryu Hansu beat Kebispayev Almat from Kazakhstan in the men’s greco-roman 97-kg category on the previous day.
At the beginning of the match, Cho Hyo Chul felt the pressure from Xiao Di, who had led up to 1-4 in technical points.
However, after the break in the second three minutes, Cho Hyo Chul appeared more confident.
His efforts were not in vain, as his slam was able to earn him four technical points to reverse the score to 5-4, which lasted until the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the match.
Spontaneously, he ran to the corner of the arena and sat crying. The referee then pulled his hand and asked him to return to the arena to be announced as the winner.
The result managed to double the gold medal for Korea and forced Xiao Di to settle as runner-up with a silver medal.
Meanwhile, two bronze medals in each class were won by Kyrgyz wrestler Uzur Dzhuzupbekov and Kazakh wrestler Yerulan Iskakov.
