Indonesian
rowers Julianti and Yayah Rokayah won bronze in the women’s pairs rowing event
at the 2018 Asian Games event held at Jakabaring Sports City (JSC) in Palembang
on Thursday.
The
bronze was the first medal won by the national rowing team in the Games.
China’s pair, Ju Rui and Lin Xinyu, grabbed the gold medal in the event, while
South Korea’s Jeon Seoyeong and Kim Seo Hee settled for silver.
The
medals were placed around the winners’ necks by Indonesian Rowing Association
(PODSI) secretary-general Edy Suyono at the rowing medal ceremony in JSC’s
rowing venue.
Julianti
and Rokayah said they were proud to have contributed the first medal from
rowing for Indonesia in this year’s Games.
“We
have tried our best but we can only give a bronze to Indonesia,” they said
after receiving their medals.
