Korea
defeated Sri Lanka 8-0 in the 2018 Asian Games men’s hockey Group A game at the
Hockey Stadium, Bung Karno sports complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Playing
in hot weather, Kim Young-kyu's team competed with high tempo from the very
beginning. Korea took the lead through Kim Seongkyu from a penalty corner in
the fourth minute.
Two
minutes later, Korea doubled the lead to 2-0 through Kim Junghoo.
Sri
Lanka tried to evade pressure from the Koreans by launching a quick attack
through winger Malegoda Gamage. These efforts, however, were dampened by the
Korean defense.
One-two
passes between Korean players were converted into another goal by Hwang Weonki.
Korean
Bae Jong-suk scored another goal by end of the first quarter following a pass
from Kim Kihoon.
Both
teams alternately launched attacks in the second quarter, but no goals were
scored.
However
in the third quarter, Jang Jonghyun scored three goals for Korea, exploiting
Sri Lanka's weak defense.
At
the end of the game, Hwang Taeil scored another goal for Korea through a
horizontal shot that passed the Sri Lankan defenders.
