Japan wins gold in Women’s individual
Kayak Slalom

Japanese
kayaker Aki Yazawa won gold in the women's individual kayak slalom category at
the Rentang Dam in Majalengka Regency, West Java, on Wednesday. She booked
95.83 seconds with zero penalties.
Yazawa
outperformed Chinese kayaker Tong Li, who took silver with 100.17 seconds, 4.34
seconds less than Yazawa, with zero penalties.
In
third place, Chinese Taipei’s Chuhan Chang won bronze with 103.80 seconds and a
penalty of 2 seconds. Chang improved his timing in the semifinals at 114.59
seconds with a time penalty of 52 seconds.
Secretary-general
of the Asian Canoe Confederation Wai hung Luk presented the winners medals.
Meanwhile,
the only Indonesian representative in the semifinals, Sumita Kurnia, failed to
win a medal in the final with a time of 148.8 seconds and a 4 second penalty.
Sumita ranked 7th after Yazawa Aki, Li Tong, Chuhan Chang, Kamila Safina of
Kazakhstan at 118.25 seconds, Thatchaporn Pornchai of Thailand at 125.25
seconds and Roxana Razeghian of Iran at 134.03 seconds.
"We
tried our best, I know Sumita has been training hard and doing her best, and
her performance really needs to be appreciated because this is the first time
Indonesia has competed in the Asian Games slalom branch," said Indonesian
national team coach Uyun Gunawan.
The
Indonesian team still has hope for a medal in the men's individual slalom
through 21-year-old Arifal, who will compete in the semifinal on Thursday.
