Kazakhstan's
water polo team defeated the Republic of Korea 16-9 in the first Group A match
of the men's tournament at Senayan Aquatics Stadium here on Saturday.
Kazakhstan
player Mikhail Ruday scored three goals, more than any other player in his
team, while the Republic of Korea’s top scorer was Kim Donghyeok, also with 3
goals.
Kazakhstan
initially took the lead, with the first quarter ending 5-1, and was able to
maintain its superiority in the second quarter, which ended 10-2.
In
the third quarter, the two teams scored three goals each, but Kazakhstan still
led 13-5.
In
the closing quarter, Seonuk Lee and his teammates tried to catch up by
launching more offensives, resulting in four goals, while Kazakhstan scored 3
goals.
The
match ended with Kazakhstan winning 16-9 over South Korea.
In
another Group A match, Iran defeated Singapore 11-5.
Mehdi
Yazdankhah and Mohammadjavad Abbasi scored the most goals for Iran, 3 goals
each, while Singapore's top scorer, Jian Ying Koh, also scored 3 goals.
Victory
for Kazakhstan and Iran means they top Group A in the men's water polo with two
points each.
As
for South Korea and Singapore, they must settle for third and fourth places.
