Indonesia
has itself another bronze medal thanks to Wiji Lestari, who competed in the
women’s BMX racing event on Saturday.
Wiji
finished third with a time of 40.788 seconds at Pulo Mas International BMX
Center, Jakarta.
The
gold medal was taken by Zhang Yaru from China, who finished in a time of 39.843
seconds, and the silver went to Thai racer Kitwanitsathian Chuttikan, who
finished in 40.379 seconds.
With
Wiji’s bronze, Indonesia now has a silver and a bronze medal in BMX.
Previously, Indonesian men’s BMX racer I Gusti Bagus Saputra took silver by
clocking a time of 34.314 seconds.
Wiji
said she was not able to secure gold for Indonesia because the other athletes
were more experienced.
“I
feel grateful for the prayers offered by the Indonesian people, especially the
support given by spectators while we were racing. We’ll be training harder for
bigger successes in the future,” she added.
