Jakarta,
21/8 (Antara) – IR Iran (IRI) has dominated men’s freestyle wrestling at the
2018 Asian Games with three gold medals by the second day of the competition at
the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Assembly Hall in Jakarta.
Three
champions have emerged from among Iran’s wrestlers: Hassan Yazdanicharati in
the 86 kg weight class, Alireza Kariminachiani in the 97 kg and Parviz
Hadibasmanj in the 125 kg.
Iran
grabbed its first two gold medals on the first day of the wrestling competition
on Sunday, and claimed its third gold on Monday.
Reza
Atrinagharchi also won a bronze medal for Iran in the 57 kg class.
Iran's
opportunity to collect more golds is wide open, as six categories in
Greco-Roman wrestling remain to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
DPR
Korea followed Iran with two gold medals, one silver and two bronzes. Mongolia
is in third with two golds and three bronzes.
India
collected two golds, while Uzbekistan got one gold and three bronzes.
Behind
Uzbekistan are Japan with two silvers and five bronzes, Kazakhstan with two
golds and two silvers, China and Kyrgyzstan with two silvers each, Lebanon with
one bronze and South Korea with four bronzes.
Of
the total wrestling medals comprising 18 golds, 18 silvers and 36 bronzes, the
competing wrestlers have so far claimed 10 golds, 10 silvers and 20 bronzes.
Tuesday
will see athletes vie for four gold medals, four silvers and eight bronzes in
the 68 kg and 76 kg classes of women's freestyle wrestling and in the 60 kg and
67 kg classes of men’s Greco-Roman wrestling.
On
the final day of the competition on Wednesday, wrestlers will compete in the
men’s Greco-Roman event in the 77 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg and 130 kg classes.
Wrestlers
of host country Indonesia remained empty-handed on Wednesday morning, but their
medal opportunities remain open, with the Indonesia wrestling team competing in
all wrestling events.
