Puspa
Arumsari has won Indonesia’s first gold in pencak silat, the country’s
traditional martial art form that is making its debut in the 2018 Asian Games
in Jakarta.
Puspa
took the gold after scoring the highest points of 467 in the women's single art
category at Padepokan Pencak Silat Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East
Jakarta on Monday.
Lagging
behind Puspa were Singapore’s Nurzuhairah Mohammad Yazid, who took silver with
445 points, and the Philippines's Cherry May Regalado who took the bronze with
444 points.
Youth
and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi placed the medals around the winners’ necks.
With
Puspa’s victory, Indonesia has won 13 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games. The
host country is expected to collect five gold medals from pencak silat.
