JAKARTA - The Facts & Figures for selected medal events which will be held on Monday 27 August.

General: 

The last time Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei contested both the men’s and women’s recurve team finals at the Asian Games was in 2002. Republic of Korea won both golds.
v Mongolia can win its first-ever medal in archery at the Asian Games. The NOC faces China in the bronze medal matches in both the men’s recurve team and mixed recurve team events.
v Men’s recurve team: Republic of Korea meets Chinese Tapei in the gold medal match. At the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, China won gold to end an eight-edition winning streak by Republic of Korea (1982-2010).
v Women’s recurve team: Republic of Korea meets Chinese Taipei in the gold medal match. Republic of Korea has failed to win this event only twice since the sport was introduced to the Asian Games in 1978. Japan won the first edition and China won in 1994.
v Recurve mixed team: Japan and DPR Korea will contest the final. Neither NOC has won a medal in this event at either the world championship or Asian Archery Championship.
v Compound mixed team: Republic of Korea meets Chinese Taipei in the gold medal match. This event is being held for the first time at the Asian Games.

Athletics

v Women’s 400m hurdles: China leads all NOCs with four golds and 14 total medals in this event.
v Japan has yet to claim its first gold medal in this event (G0-S3-B2).
v Men’s 400m hurdles: Japan has won this event a record eight times at the Asian Games and collected a record total of 20 medals, at least 16 more than any other NOC.
v Abderrahman SAMBA (QAT) ran 46.98 in Paris in June 2018, to become the second man to run sub-47 seconds in this event, after world record holder Kevin YOUNG (USA) with 46.78 in 1992.
v Women’s 3000m steeplechase: Sudha SINGH (IND) won the gold medal when this event was held for the first time at the Asian Games in 2010.
v Men’s 3000m steeplechase: Japan has won 10 of the 17 Asian Games gold medals in this event but not since 1998, when Yasunori UCHITOMI (JPN) was victorious.
v Men’s high jump: Japan has won a record 17 medals (G3-S7-B7) in this event at the Games. China (14, G3-S8-B3) is the only other NOC to have won more than five medals in this event.
v Women’s long jump: Maria Natalia LONDA (INA) took gold at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.
v Men’s javelin: Japan's has won eight gold medals in this event, followed by China on four.

Badminton

v Women’s doubles: China has won the women’s double event a record six times at the Asian Games.
v Misaki MATSUTOMO (JPN) and Ayaka TAKAHASHI (JPN) are the reigning Olympic champions.
v Mixed doubles: China will become the first NOC to win a medal in this event in six successive editions of the Asian Games.
v At the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games, China has drawn level with Indonesia as the NOC to have won the most medals in the mixed doubles event at the Asian Games. Both now have 17 medals.

Beach volleyball

v Women’s team: China (4) and Thailand (1) are the only NOCs to have won this event previously. Miki ISHII and Megumi MURAKAMI could win Japan their first gold. 
v XIA Xinyi (CHN) can win her second gold medal in this event, after becoming the youngest gold medallist in women's beach volleyball at the age of 17 years and 257 days at the 2014 Games. 

Bowling

v Women’s masters: LEE Nayoung (KOR) won in 2014 and can become only the second bowler to win this event twice at the Asian Games after compatriot LEE Ji-Yeon (KOR, 1986 and 1994).
v Men’s masters: PARK Jong Woo (KOR) was victorious in 2014 and can become the first bowler to win multiple gold medals in the men's masters at the Asian Games.

Canoe/Kayak sprint

v Men’s TBR 1000m: On the only occasion this event was held at the Asian Games, in 2010, Indonesia won in 3:32.016, ahead of Myanmar (second) and Republic of Korea (third).

Cycling track

v Women's team sprint: This event made its Asian Games debut in 2014, with GONG Jinjie (CHN) and ZHONG Tianshi (CHN) winning gold, Republic of Korea claiming silver and Chinese Taipei collecting bronze.
v GONG and ZHONG also won gold in this event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
v Men’s team sprint: Japan won this event when it was first held at the Asian Games, in 2002, and also in 2006. China was victorious in 2010, and Republic of Korea won the gold medal in 2014.
v Women’s madison: This is the only cycling track event to be making its debut at these Games.

Karate

v Women’s -68kg: Guzaliya GAFUROVA (KAZ) claimed the gold medal in 2014 and can become the first athlete to win multiple Asian Games medals in this event since it was introduced in 2010.
v Men’s -75kg: Bahman ASGARI GHONCHEH (IRI) won gold at the Asian championships in 2017.
v Bashar ALNAJJAR (JOR) won the men's -75kg kumite event at the 2018 Asian championships.
v Men’s -84kg: World and Asian champion Ryutaro ARAGA (JPN) can become the fifth athlete to have claimed at least three medals in a specific karate event: LIM Lee Lee (MAS, 4) and CHEUNG Pui Si (MAC, 4) in the women’s individual kata, Jin Keat KU (MAS, 3) in the men’s individual kata, and Puvaneswaran RAMASARY (MAS, 3) in the men’s -55kg kumite.

Pencak silat

v General: This sport is being held at the Asian Games for the first time.
v Women’s single: Puspa ARUMSARI (INA) won this event at the world championships in 2016.
v Men’s double: Indonesia won this event at the world championships in 2016 through Yola Primadona JAMPIL and HENDY. The pair were second at the South East Asian Games in 2017.
v Men’s team: Indonesia won the men’s team event at the world championships in 2016, ahead of Vietnam (second) and Singapore (third).

Rhythmic gymnastics

v Women’s team all around: Kazakhstan is the only NOC to have won a medal in the team event at each of the last four Asian Games - silver in 2002, gold in 2006 and 2010, bronze in 2014.

Sport climbing

v Women’s speed relay: In the 2017 World Cup rankings in the mixed speed team event (men and women), the highest-ranked Asian NOCs were Indonesia (5), China (6), Iran (8).
v Men’s speed relay: Reza ALIPOUR SHENAZANDIFARD (IRI) is Asian champion in the men's individual speed event from 2017 and world-record holder in the men's 15m speed event.

Weightlifting

v Men’s +105kg: Iran’s four gold medals and six total medals in this event are both records for the NOC at the Asian Games in any of the current weight categories (since 1998).
v Behdad SALIMIKORDASIABI (IRI) could win a record third gold medal in this event (since 1998).
v Women’s +75kg: KIM Kuk Hyang (PRK) can become the first DPR Korea weightlifter to win this event at an Asian Games. She won silver in the women’s +75kg at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
