IR Iran weightlifter Sohrab Moradi lifted 189 kilograms on his way to winning gold in the men’s 94 kg weightlifting category at the 2018 Asian Games, breaking the 188 kg snatch record set by Greece's Akakios Kakiasvilis in 1999.

At the JIExpo in Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Saturday, Sohrab successfully lifted 182 kg on his first attempt. On his second attempt, he tried to lift 189 kg, but the barbell fell behind him.

The spectators at the weightlifting arena fell silent as he made his second try at lifting the weight. Sohrab successfully lifted the world record-breaking weight, prompting loud cheers from the spectators. Sohrab nodded to thank his supporters.
