Indonesian
pencak silat duo Ayu Sidan Wilantari and Ni Made Dwiyanti won the women’s
doubles gold at Padepokan Pencak Silat, Taman Mini Indonesia, in East Jakarta
on Wednesday.
Their
gold in the artistic pencak silat category was Indonesia’s 10th from pencak
silat in the 2018 Asian Games.
The
pair posted the highest score of 574, beating Thai pair Saowanee Chanthamunee
and Oraya Choosuwan, who took home silver.
Malaysian
pair Nor Hamizah Abu Hassan and Nur Syazreen Malik settled for bronze.
Indonesian
Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) chair Prabowo Subianto placed the medals around
the winners’ necks.
Ayu
and Ni Made gave a perfect performance through their authentic fighting moves.
Fans
were frustrated when an official hit the gong at 2:52, eight seconds short of
the predetermined performance time of three minutes. Indonesian coaches,
officials and spectators protested the error. Despite the problem, the
Indonesian duo emerged as the winner.
Pencak
silat offers three golds in the artistic category and five golds in the
fighting category.
