Taipei shuttler Tai Tzu Ying won the gold medal for her country in the 2018
Asian Games badminton women's singles event after defeating Pusarla Sindhu of
India 21-13, 21-16 at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno badminton stadium in
Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Tai,
who is ranked first in the world, dominated throughout the match, which was
finished in in 34 minutes. In the first set, Tai, who won the All England
championship this year, opened up a large lead, winning by eight points.
Sindhu,
the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist, took an early lead in the
second set. However, her advantage did not last long as Tai rose again to take
control of the set.
With
her victory at the Games, Tai has won 10 of her 13 encounters against the
women’s world number three shuttler Sindhu. It was also her sixth victory in a
row over the Indian shuttler.
The
bronze medals went to Saina Nehwal of India and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
