China wins gold in Women's Trap Shooting

Xinqiu
Zhang from China won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games trap shooting
competition at Jakabaring Sports City in Palembang on Monday.
Xinqiu
took home the gold after gaining a total of 45 points, ahead of five other
shooters who passed through the two-day qualifying round. The silver medal went
to Korea (KOR) after Kang Gee-eun gained a total of 44 points. Lebanese shooter
Ray Bassil won bronze with 34 points.
The
women's trap final was tight, with only a single point separating first and
second place.
Kazakhstan
shooter Mariya Dmitriyenko finished first in the two days of qualifiers
preceding the final but fell at the final hurdle. The 30-year-old’s radar was
off, scoring only 27 points to finish in fourth place.
Lebanese
shooter Ray Bassil, who finished second in the qualifying round, also
underperformed in the final, scoring 34 points to bring home the bronze medal.
Xinqiu
showed steady improvement from day one of the competition. During the
qualifying round on the first day, she was ranked seventh, rising to third on
the second day of qualification.
Meanwhile,
Kang Gee-eun was consistent across the two days of qualifying, remaining in the
top six.
Indonesia’s
shooter again failed to reach the final, with Sarmunah and Sylvia Silimang not
making it passed the qualifying round.
After
the second day of qualifying, Sylvia had scored 96 points and was ranked 23rd,
while Sarmunah was ranked 24th with 90 points.
With
Xinqiu's victory, China extended its lead at the top of the medal table with
four golds and one silver.
Previously,
China also won gold in the men's 10-meter air rifle, the women's 10-meter air
rifle and the mixed team 10-meter pistol shooting.
