v 200 ODI cap for veteran Mushrafe Mortaza
The tourists crumbled to a resounding five-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh, as an inspired bowling display from the hosts exposed flaws, once again, in the Windies' batting line-up.

Shai Hope top-scored with 41 as Tigers skipper Mashrafe Mortaza (3/30) and left-armer Mustafizur Rahman (3/35) helped restrict Rovman Powell's men to 195/9, before an unbeaten Mushfiqur Rahim half-century pushed the hosts to a dominant victory in the first ODI in Dhaka.
Having won the toss and batted, it became evident that it was not to be a fruitful batting track, as Kieran Powell and Hope had to work hard for runs early doors.
Shakib Al Hasan made the early breakthrough as Powell miscued one to point in the eighth over, and the Windies laboured their way through the first 20 overs. Darren Bravo fell for a 51-ball 19, Mortaza doing the business on his 200th appearance, before the more oiled Hope also fell at the hands of the home captain for 43, leaving the tourists on 78/3 and struggling for fluency in the middle.

Shimron Hetmyer (6) could not convert his impressive Test form to the ODI arena, perishing to Mehedi Hasan (1/30) as he played down the wrong line, seeing his bails dislodged by the left-arm spinner.
The excellent Mortaza notched his third scalp when Rovman Powell (14) pumped one straight to mid-off, before Rubel Hossein (1/61), Bangladesh’s most expensive bowler, cashed in with the wicket of Marlon Samuels- Liton Das taking a quality catch high above his head at long-on.

At 127/6 with less than 11 overs to bat, the Windies were staring down the barrel of a pitiful first innings effort, but a calm cameo from Roston Chase and a spirited knock from tail-ender Keemo Paul hauled the tourists to a total of some respectability.
The pair shared a valuable stand of 51 from 48 before Chase (32) fell courtesy of a clever Mustafizur slower ball, followed by Paul’s departure for 36- his mistimed drive flying to third man and gifting Mustafizur with his second scalp. The left-armer completed his trio of dismissals with Devendra Bishoo’s golden duck in the final over. The West Indies entered the break buoyed somewhat by a useful late resurgence, but they were comfortably short of an intimidating total.
Das survived an early scare at the top of the Bangladesh innings, flicking the ball straight into the hands of Hetmyer at deep mid-wicket, only for the third umpire to reveal that Kemar Roach had overstepped- the Windies’ ever-frustrating achilles heel surfacing once again.
Das fought well for his 41, and was reprieved on five when he was caught off a no-ball Das fought well for his 41, and was reprieved on five when he was caught off a no-ball
The returning and highly potent Tamim Iqbal departed in the following over, Chase picking up a wicket as the flamboyant opener swiped hard and edged to Bishoo. Imrul Kayes then lasted just two balls from Oshane Thomas- the first yielded a plucky edge which flew for four, and the second was a bamboozling full one from round the wicket which nailed the stumps. Thomas’ blistering pace was simply too ferocious.
Das accumulated well for his 41 before being cleaned up a Roach ripper to leave the hosts 89/3, but Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim quelled any threat of an impressive Windies fight-back with a 57-run stand before the former nicked one behind for 30, Rovman Powell picking up the scalp.

Soumya Sarkar scored 19 before edging to slip, Chase getting his second wicket, but Mushfiqur passed 50 as he guided his side home in unperturbed fashion, the hosts securing a dominant five-wicket win on a tricky batting track with just under 15 overs remaining.
