Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings: PSL 2019 Match 5 preview
The fifth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 4 will be played at 9-00 pm on Saturday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. It is expected to be an interesting and tough contest as the teams belong to two biggest and important cities of Pakistan and have always been considered cricketing rivals to each other.
Both teams have played one match each in the fourth edition of the PSL as Karachi emerged victorious by seven runs in an exciting match against Multan Sultans on Friday while Lahore was unfortunately defeated by five wickets at the hands of Islamabad United in the inaugural match on Thursday.
Though Lahore got off to a good start as openers Fakhar Zaman and Sohail Akhtar provided a solid start of 97 runs. Then Faheem Ashraf and Waqas Maqsood brought Islamabad back in the match.
Fakhar top-scored with a 44-ball 65 laced with three sixes and six fours while Sohail made a 30-ball 37. They lifted Qalandars to 171-8 and then pacer Rahat Ali captured four wickets to give Lahore some hopes but they were shattered by batting prowess of Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, and Faheem Ashraf.
On the other hand, openers Liam Livingstone and Babar Azam posted a record-breaking 157-run partnership to guide Karachi Kings to a seven-run triumph over Multan Sultans, who were restricted to 176-9 while chasing 184. Livingstone of England smashed a 42-ball 82 on his PSL debut while world's best T20 batsman Babar hit a 59-ball 77.
Islamabad United vs Multan Sultans: PSL 2019 Match 4 preview
Multan Sultans opened their account in PSL 2019 with a five-wicket win over Islamabad United in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. After restricting United to 125 from their allotted overs, courtesy a disciplined bowling effort, Sultans took longer than expected but knocked off the target with ease to pick up first points of the season.
Put in to bat first, United suffered a dramatic top and middle order collapse despite Luke Ronchi standing firm at one end. Ronchi hit a 33-ball 51, studded with five sixes, and was third dismissed when United's overall score was just 61. Contrasting knocks late in the day from Samit Patel and Faheem Ashraf - both contributing 20 each - took their team to a respectable 125. Ali Shafiq and Shahid Afridi were the picks of the bowlers, with combined figures of 4 for 29 from their eight overs.
Sultans lost Johnson Charles early in their chase but Shan Massod and Laurie Evans quickly got the team back on track with a 37-run partnership. The duo departed in quick succession but skipper Shoaib Malik took charge next. He stitched three slow but useful stands with Hammad Azam, Andre Russell and then Shahid Afridi to take their team over the line.
The equation was down to 14 required off 12 balls when Afridi sealed the deal with two back to back sixes in the penultimate over to help Sultans win by five wickets with eight balls to spare.
