The Thailand women’s indoor volleyball team defeated the Philippines in three sets in a Group A match at the Gelora Bung Karno Indoor Volleyball Arena on Sunday.

At the start, the Philippines held a lead, but toward the end of the first set, Thailand caught up and edged its opponent 25-22.

Entering the second set, Thailand, led by its skipper Thinkaow Pleumujit, connected on strong spikes to extend its lead with a 25-12 set victory.

In the third set, Thailand upped the tempo by rotating its players. It ended the set with a 25-15 win, securing the match.

Thailand coach Sriwacharamaytakul Danai said after the match that he was happy with his team's excellent performance.

"The team's stamina in this first match was quite satisfactory. But we have to prepare ourselves for the next match with a better strategy," he said.

Captain Thinkaow Pleumjit said her team performed better after having participated in several trial matches.

"Today we are playing better, my hopes for the future are even better than today," she said.
