Indonesia defeated Japan 30-22 in the 2018
Asian Games women’s Kabaddi preliminary round at the Garuda Theater in Taman
Mini Indonesia Park on Sunday.
In the match, Indonesian players, who were
physically superior, controlled the course of the game by frequently attacking
the Japanese defense area, although they occasionally retreated to lure the
Japanese athletes into the Indonesian area.
"As we predicted earlier and upon
observing Japan's previous matches, they lack good raiders and that was how we
got points, by breaking down their weaknesses," Indonesia Kabaddi team
manager Ida Bagus Gana said after the match.
Two Indonesian raiders, Dewi and Pradnya,
were the mainstays in winning points, while team defenders played well in
thwarting Japanese attempts to win points. Dewi won a two-point bonus from
sportackle and another 1-point bonus extra.
In the next round, Indonesia will face Sri
Lanka.
Kabaddi is a popular sport in South Asia.
