badminton doubles Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo, affectionately known as
the “Minions”, took home gold in the men’s doubles after defeating their
compatriots in three exhilarating sets at Istora Gelora Bung Karno Senayan,
Tuesday.
The
duo defeated Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto 13-21, 21-18, 24-22.
Both
teams showcased stunning performances, which often prompted the spectators to
clap in amazement.
Fajar
and Rian sealed the first set in just 13 minutes through their flat and fast
shots.
Entering
the second set, Marcus and Kevin lagged behind 4-7 but quickly caught up to
draw level at 9-9. They maintained the momentum and won the second set 21-18
after Fajar’s shot landed out of court.
In
the rubber set, Marcus and Kevin were ahead 8-3, but Fajar and Rian rallied to
equalize at 8-8. The two pairs played to their best.
Fajar
and Rian turned things around with a 17-12 advantage, but soon Marcus and Kevin
equalized at 19-19.
Fajar
and Rian got back in the lead with 20-19 but failed to score the match point.
The “Minions” battled back and sealed the final 24-22 in their favor.
