Iran Wins gold In Men’s
kabaddi

The
Iranian men’s team followed in the footsteps of its women’s counterparts by
winning a gold medal in kabaddi after defeating Korea 26-16 at the Garuda
Theater, TMII Jakarta, on Friday.
Playing
with high zeal, both teams were very cautious in the beginning until the first
point was scored by Korea. Iran retaliated to equalize, followed by a tight
struggle that led to an 8-8 scoreline.
Iran
scored another point when Korea’s Lee Donggeon was thwarted, making it 9-8. Ko
Youngchang also failed to hit when he got caught, making the score 10-8 in the
first half.
In
the second half, Iran’s Maghsoudloujafari was given a yellow card for his
attitude and moved to the seat beside the referee for 3 minutes.
Still,
Iran added a bonus point after Esmaeli made a fast move and his hand touched
the red line in the middle of the field. By the end of the second half, Iran
secured a 3 point bonus that changed the score to 25-14. The match finished
26-16 for Iran.
The
Iranian athletes celebrated the victory by running around the field while
waving their national flag. The bronze medals in men’s kabaddi were received by
India and Pakistan.
The
Iranian team comprised Atrachali Fazel, Nabibakhsh Mohammadesmaeli, Oshtorak
Hadi, Maghsoudloumahalli, Abbasi Meisam, Maghsoudluojafari Mohsen,
Mohamjermighani Abozar, Nosrati Mohammadamin, Malak Mohammad, Ghorbani
Mohammad, Abolfazi and Mirzaeinader Hamid.
The
Korean team comprised Lee Donggeon, Lee Jangkun, Eom Taedeok, Hong Dongju, Kim
Seongyeol, Park Hyunil, Ko Younghcan, Ok Yongjo, Kim Donggyu, Park Chansik, Jo
Jaepil and Kim Gyung Tae.
