Japanese swimmer Rikako Rikako Ikee won her sixth gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games after being the fastest swimmer and breaking the Asian Games record in the women’s 50 m freestyle competition at the Aquatics Stadium in the Gelora Bung Karno sport complex, Jakarta, on Friday evening.
Her time of 24.53 seconds is a new Asian Games record, breaking the previous record of 24.87 seconds set by Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
Eighteen-year-old Ikee defeated Liu Xiang, China’s top swimmer who set a new world record for the women’s 50 m backstroke with a time of 26.98 seconds in the final on Tuesday (Aug. 21).
Ikee has also won golds in the women’s 100 m freestyle, 50 m butterfly, 100 m butterfly, 4x100 m freestyle relay, and 4x100 m medley relay.
In the final of the women’s 100 m butterfly competition, Ikee also set an Asian Games record with a time of 56.30 seconds.
