Sugianto achieved Indonesia's ninth pencak silat gold after getting the highest score in the men's singles artistic event at Padepokan Pencak Silat, Taman Mini Indonesia, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Sugianto got 471 points, outclassing Thailand’s Ilyas Sadara, who took home the silver medal after scoring 460 points. The bronze medal went to the Philippine’s Almohaidis Century with a score of 455.

The pencak silat artistic category offers three gold medals for the men's singles, women's doubles and women's team events.

There are five gold medals on offer in five events in the fighting category. They comprise two men’s events (90 to 95 kilograms and 70 kg to 75 kg) and three women’s events (60 kg to 65 kg, 55 kg to 60 kg and 50 kg to 60 kg).
