Bahraini
runner Odiong Edodiong won the gold medal in the women's 200 meters at the 18th
Asian Games in Jakarta on Wednesday night.
Odidiong,
wearing the number 116, crossed the finish line at 22.96 seconds, while silver
was taken by Indian runner Chand Dutee at 23.20 seconds.
Bronze
was won by Chinese runner Wei Yongli at 23.27 seconds. The three were unable to
break the Asian Games record in the name of Darsha Damayanthi from Sri Lanka at
22.48 seconds.
Bahraini
runner Odidiong, who occupied the fifth track in the first 100 meters, kept
pace with the group, but once entering the last 100 meters she broke away to
finish.
Meanwhile,
in the men's 200 meters, the gold medal was won by Japanese runner IIzuka Shota
at 20.23 seconds.
The
silver medal was won by Chinese Taipei runner Yang Chunhan at 20.23 seconds
while bronze was won by Bahraini runner Yaqoob at 20.55 seconds.
From
the start, the Japanese and Chinese Taipei runners left their opponents at a
considerable distance. They were neck and neck up to the finish line.
In
the two 200 meters running category, there were no representatives from
Indonesia.
