Korean
(KOR) judoka Bokyeong Jeong won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games women’s
judo 48 kilogram held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on
Wednesday.
A
2014 Asian Games bronze medalist in Incheon, South Korea, Jeong defeated Ami
Kondo from Japan with a waza-ari. Ami, a 2016 Rio Olimpiad bronze medalist had
to settle for second place, while 2014 Asian Games gold medalist Urantsetseg
Munkhbat (Mongolia) came third place along with Galbadrakh Otgontsetseg
(Kazakhstan).
Indonesia’s
judoka Shinta Dewi did not qualify for the round of 16 after she was defeated
by Chinese judoka Junying Gao.
Meanwhile,
in the final match of the women’s -52 kg class, Natsumi Tsunoda (Japan) won the
gold medal after defeating Korean judoka Dasol Park.
The
bronze medals fell to the hands of Thai judoka Kachakorn Warasiha and the DPR
Korea’s Song Sim Rim, who defeated Gantsetseg Ganbold (Mongolia) and Gulnoza
Ziyaeva (Uzbekistan) respectively.
In
the women’s -52 kg class, Indonesian athlete Amanah Nur Istiqomah failed to
qualify for the round of 16 after being eliminated by Dasol Park.
