China’s
athlete, Zang Mingyu, gained a gold medal in the women’s modern pentathlon
event of the 2018 Asian Games in Tangerang, Banten, by scoring 1,375 points
over two South Korean rivals, Kim Sehee and Kim Sunwoo.
“I’m
happy to earn a gold medal after beating two South Korean athletes, placing me
in the top position,” said Zang Mingyu after receiving her medal in Tangerang
on Friday.
The
silver medal in the event was grabbed by Kim Sehee with a score of 1,350
points, while bronze went to Sehee’s compatriot Kim Sunwoo with 1,348 points.
Zang
and Kim Sehee were indeed favorite players as proven by their top places in
contest arenas for fencing, horse riding and running.
Despite
her lower score in horse riding through 15 poles, Zang managed to increase her
points from shooting. She even topped the rank in laser shooting of four out of
five targets, after running along 800 meters four times.
Modern
pentathlon is participated in by Japan, China, Kazakhstan, South Korea,
Kirgizstan, Mongolia, Thailand and Indonesia and held in a riding school in
Tigaraksa, Tangerang from Friday to Saturday.
Meanwhile,

Adrianida Saleh scored 773 points over Thailand’s Prasongpol Tirada (712
points). Dea was ranked 10th and Adrianida 12th of the 13 athletes competing.
