China
swimmer Liu Xiang booked a new world record in the women’s 50 meter backstroke
of the 2018 Asian Games at the Aquatic Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on
Tuesday.
The
silver medal went to another China swimmer, Fu Yuanhui, who finished the race
at 27.68 seconds, while bronze was won by Japan’s Natsumi Sakai at 27.91
seconds.
With
a time of 26.98 seconds, Liu broke the previous world record of 27.06 seconds
made by compatriot Zhao Jing at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
