Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Alireza Karimimachiani has claimed a gold medal for Iran in the 97 kg freestyle wrestling event in beating Kyrgyzstan wrestler, Magomed Musaev, in the final bout on Sunday evening at the Assembly Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta.

The Iran wrestler outclassed Musaev 6-0, winning the match on technical superiority. Kariminachiani performed agressively and controlled the fight, scoring 5 technical points in the first 3 minutes.

Both wrestlers looked exhausted following a 30-second break, with Kariminachiani only notching 1 technical point, while his opponent remained scoreless.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's Magomed Ibragimov and Japan's Jaegang Kim each took home a bronze medal in the event.

Iran’s gold in the 97 kg event proves the country’s forte in freestyle wresting. An Iran wrestler also won gold in the earlier 86 kg event.
