Japan Beat Hong Kong In Women’s Hockey

The
Japan national women’s hockey team dominated Hong Kong, China 6-0 in a Group A
match at the 2018 Asian Games at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium’s hockey field in
Jakarta on Tuesday.
In
the first quarter, Japan put the opposing players on their heels, with several
chances from Oikawa Shihori and Kawamura Motomi, but they were all blocked by
Hong Kong’s defense line. In the 10th minute, however, Yamada Aki opened the
scoresheet to make it 1-0 for Japan.
Heavy
pressure on Hong Kong’s defense forced it to commit a violation, resulting in a
penalty shot. Japan’s Mayumi converted from the spot, striking the ball into
the Hong Kong net.
In
the third quarter, Japan added three more goals through Oikawa Shihori,
Nishikori Emi and Yamada Aki.
At
the start of the fourth quarter, Hong Kong made several quick attacks through
winger Chan Yi Man. But the athlete’s repeated attempts were thwarted by
Japan’s stalwart defense.
In
the final minutes of the match, Japan’s Nishikori Emi connected on a shot from
the corner of the penalty box, putting the score at 6-0.
Hong
Kong trainer Arifali A. said his players struggled to perform their best
against a Japan side that was seeded.
The
two teams are in Group A along with China and Malaysia.
